Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Art Auction.

I'm briefly breaking radio silence here to announce that I have a piece in the (now live!) Juxtapoz Art Auction that's showing tomorrow night in LA.  There are a lot of amazing artists who have donated pieces to the event, check it out here for auction pieces, interviews, and more.

Postscript: I've been working slavishly away in the studio while being relatively silent on posts over here; I swear by the spines of Ludwig I'll have some peeks soon for you.

Monsters!

I have work in a show opening tomorrow here in Charlottesville entitled "Monsters!," which pairs me with the ineffable and talented Allyson Mellburg and Jeremy Taylor, who are both incredible artists and excellent people.  I'm really looking forward to it-- hopefully folks in the area will be able to come out!

The PVCC Gallery opens its 2009-10 season this weekend with four exhibits, including an outdoor installation.
On view will be "Turning Many Ways" by JMU art professor Greg Stewart, "Monsters" by local artists Allyson Mellberg, Jeremy Taylor and Allison Sommers, "Dream Sequence" by former PVCC art student Sarah Murphy, and "L'espirit de l'escalier" by local artist Shelby Fischer.
The opening reception is FREE and open to the public. The works will be on view through November 4.

This is a piece for a show at Exhibit A Gallery entitled Bipolar, in which artists were asked to work in a medium, style, or technique different from one's own.  I took a typical subject matter and (approximate) style from the 14th/15th century, but I couldn't help but twist a little.  Although I'm usually reluctant to  crowd my paintings with any meaningful symbols, this one can be unpacked a bit.

Kokeshi show.

I'm so excited to be part of the group show Kokeshi: from Folk Art to Art Toy that opens this Saturday, July 11.  My kokeshi (below; check it out in detail here) will be in stellar company.

Alas, within mere hours I have to bid adieu to A Brief History from the coast opposite-- thanks to all that made the show such a smash, and for taking the time to come through and take a gander.  If you didn't get a chance to see it, Thinkspace will be open today; otherwise, the pieces will be up here.
Don't forget to check my fellow May artists, Joao Ruas and Kathleen Lolley-- they're both really stellar artists (and human beings!).

Thank you to all the wonderful people who made A Brief History so much fun, and who welcomed us so warmly!  We had a phenomenal time at the opening, thanks again to all who came out.

Erratic Phenomena did a wonderful writeup, as did Daily Du Jour and Arrested Motion. (thank you all, so much!!)  Furthermore, Andrew at Thinkspace has show pics here.

Sneak; Show on Friday!

It may be perhaps salutary to warn those that may be attending A Brief History this upcoming Friday.  I don't mean to alarm, but I have managed over the past few months to capture and quarantine a number of the dead souls of these longnecked fellows I am so fond of drawing.  No doubt they find their confinement loathsome, and their being on display to be gawked at even worse; take especial care.

Believe what you will about the afterlife-- these fellows look awfully bored.
