preflight

6.5 x 8.5 gouache on illustration board.  It's a piece for "Fight for Flight," an art benefit for API at Thinkspace in early January.

While I was working on this piece, it occurred to me that it probably owes a debt to the wonderful James Gurney and the skybaxes in Dinotopia.  (he also has an excellent and very informative blog here)
